Does this have a light behind it?

I know this is basic stuff so I'm hoping EVERYONE can answer this question for me. I have just bought a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT. Does the headlight switch have a light behind it? Mine isn't lit and it's hard to find the **** in the dark when I park in the garage at night. I don't want to pull the entire dash apart if it doesn't. :)

It does, but many times is burnt out. The **** doesn't light up.

You can take the dash apart and replace the burnt out bulb with a LED, which will not burn out, for a long time anyways.

On my Cardomain site is a how-to that shows how to put an LED in to replace that crappy bulb that's usually in there. Do that and you'll never have to replace it again and you can choose your color. Get super bright (high output) LED's and follow the instructions and you're there. Lot's have done it.

Thanks gang. Now if I can just figure out how to take the panel off the dash. I've put in LEDs before. I changed out my door panel bulbs in my Camaro. I've even still got a pack full of different LEDs of differing lumens. I'll check out your site now.

That overhead console deal you mounted is exceptional. Did you get the digital thermometer to work, too? I would love to have a place to stick my sunglasses and a temp gauge in the truck. In fact I'd love to have a console between the seats that is actually reachable for my giant glass of Coke. Heh!

Yep with the OHC you can get the temp and the compass to work perfectly. It's probably my favorite/most useful mod up there with the Mustang Domelight. A lot of guys will say the same thing. It's actually not that hard to do either.

Good question.

Since I've owned my 01, I've never had it working. I'll have to dig in there and eventually get around to replacing the bulb.

Don't mean to jack this thread. Just wondering, you guys that have done the Explorer overhead console mod.

Did you have to move the rear view mirror?

When I put my console in the rear view mirror hits the console and it's impossible to adjust it properly.
I had to replace my windshield about 2 years ago due to a crack. Thinking they put the mirror to high.
I think there's a kit or something you can get at NAPA or Autozone that let's
you remove the mount and reglue it someplace else. Anyone done this?

Reviving an old thread. I also just put in an OHC and now I need to lower my rear view mirror. I got the glue but can't get the mirror off. I tried prying it with a flathead but that was starting to leave a mark on my windshield. Is there a trick to getting it off?

Theirs a locking clip holding it on to the mount which is glued to the window.

Ill see if get a pic of the back of the stocker so you can see how to unlock it.

To get the mount off use a razor blade. Be careful not to dig the edge or corners into the glass and ffs don't get all emo about it and end up cutting yourself.

I have the actual mirror off, but it's the metal button thing that is glued on that is giving me hell.

I have been trying a razor blade with no luck.

A heat gun or hair dryer may help, as might some rubbing alcohol. The razor blade has always worked for me.

You need to lower it why?

I have the ohc and used with and with out the dimmer mirror. It fit and looked fine on both.

That button is on there damn good. A heat gun on the opposite side of the glass will help. Be careful. The plastic in the glass can melt. Im not sure what effects that can have.

Its a Sylvania 2721 bulb. You can get them at any auto parts store. They look like a 904 bulb but much smaller. Pretty much the size of an LED. Use a pliers and very very very carefully pull the bulb out of the plastic holder.
