Truck started shaking real bad

Ok last night I was driving home and something happened to my truck that I have never experienced before.

It sounded like my exhaust was clogged or something and the whole truck would shake like crazy. I poped the hood and the motor does not shake and it only does it when I push down on the gas pedal.

Please anyone that will help please let me know I dont know what this is.

I have asked around and some people say it might be a dirty fuel injector to a clogged or dirty fuel filter or cat. converter.

Please help.

is your check engine light on?

Try running some seafoam through the tank and down the brake booster hose. Does your truck have a sulfur/rotten egg smell to it? -Mike-

Does it happen when revving in park or only when moving?

it happens all the time. when I start it and when I start driving it. I have a 5 speed and a 3.0 4x4. When I rev it up it shakes as well.

Are there any odd sounds coming from the motor while this is happening?

Lose transmission bolts? might be causing the transmission to sag, and when its kicked into gear, rocks everything around while its spinning?

Mine has done that twice and both were bad injectors. It would shake like crazy but other than that it was fine. No CEL, no smell, no discernable noise until we spark tested each cylinder to find it.

That still sounds like a plugged cat. I'd remove the upstream oxygen sensor and see if it's any better.

thanks for the time and advice guys. I am going to take it to the muffler shop tomorrow to see what this is going to set me back. I called today and the OE replacement is about $900 installed for the cats from the manifold back to the rear cat. Dont know if they can just cut the back one if that is it and weld a new one on or not so we will see tomorrow.

If you look up a little bit I did specify all that but here it is again.

2000 Ford ranger
3.0 V6 Flex Fuel
5 spd 4x4

And I dont think a bad plug or wire would make the truck shake and the exhuast not sound right.

Ok I went and got a diagnostics check done and codes read and it came out good. The computer said everything was fine. Nothing wrong with anything. WTF!

I also took the truck to a local exhaust shop and they said that the cats seem fine to them.

Dont know what to do now except to take it to the dealer and pay out the *** for them to look it all over for everything.

Nothing else I can think of doing.

Your describing the same symptoms as mine when one of my cylinders stopped firing. If you haven't yet, hook up a timing light and see if all your spark plugs are firing.

I had my iginition module crap out and it stopped activating one of my plugs. The truck would vibrate like crazy in all RPMs and if you opened the hood, it didn't look like the engine was vibrating at all. Also, I could normally cruise at 70 mph, but without that one cylinder, the truck would huff and puff to 70.

Hope you figure it out.

i'm with eguy208... a few weeks ago one of my spark plugs was fouled and not firing anymore... shook like crazy and didn't throw a code for about 40 miles (i was 70 miles from home and had to get back).. i thougt it was the transmission also but i was wrong. might try checking the plugs, only takes about 10 mins and is cheap if that's all it is

Yeah my exhaust does not sound smooth at all. I had a flowmaster on it a while ago and I unbolted it right after the cats. So I have no exhaust from the cats back. It started sounding weird when it started shaking not a normal straight pipe sound. I am going this week to put a stock exhaust on it cause I think I am getting rid of it in the summertime.

There was no codes at all and I am going to day to get the live data scan done.

I am going to check all my plugs today and get a temp gun to check the pipe temp before and after the cats to rule that out.

Ill let you know.

So I checked my plugs today at work. Yeah I do somewhat absolutely nothing at work. I pulled the truck in the shop and popped the hood and took the wires off one by one to see if there was a change in the idle.

All 3 on the passenger side were fine the first one on the drivers side was good then I get to the middle wire I beleive it is the #5 cylinder and I pull it off and nothing. No change in idle at all.

So I am going to get a new plug just one since I just changed my plugs a few months ago. Hopefully that it is just the plug and nothing else.

Ill let you know if that is it.
