Dome Light and Console Latch Problems

Dome Light and Console Latch Problems
Got two small but irritating problems with my 09 Ranger:
1. When I open the passenger door, the dome light won't come on. Works fine from the driver door. This is my first Ford, so I'm only familiar with the "pin" switches on GM and Chrysler products. Got no clue what the equivalent would be in my Ranger.
2. If I lift up the center console, the lid flies open. I can see a "pin" on the lid which is apparently supposed to latch on the console unless the release button is pressed, but there doesn't seem to be anything on the console for the pin to latch onto.
