Dome light wiring mod

Hopefully, my electrical gremlins are gone with the new GEM.

I've got some more LED's on order for my next project. I've seen it done before, but not in the manner in which I'm trying to do it...

I'm going to install some LED strips in each foot well that are connected to the OEM dome light. The trick is that I want to tap into the two small outer bulb sockets rather than the center festoon bulb's power.

I want the dome light switch (the one that's on the dome light, not just the one on the dash) to control each foot well's lights independently, ie. Left side switch for driver's side, Right side switch for pass side, when the door is open, both come on.

The trouble is that I can't seem to find any easy way to tap into the side bulbs wires without ripping the dome light completely apart.

Has anybody disassembled the OEM dome light completely and successfully been able to glue/epoxy it back together??

The worst part is that the dome light has to be installed (screwed in the ceiling) in order to get power... so testing voltage on the hidden contacts is going to be nearly impossible.

Any ideas?

just get a dome-light from the junkyard, its almost imposable to take off with out breaking, eventhen one from the junk yard i got had to be silicon ed together, once u see one apart you'll know why, its a very bad set up that have lol

I wish I had a junkyard around here, the closest one is about a 2hr drive each way. :disappoin

I took the dome light on my truck off the roof & saw it had a bunch of plastic tabs that were melted over to hold the chrome part to the electronics panel. It would suck to go through the trouble to get it apart only to find there's no way to get it back together.

Hopefully someone here has an extra one laying around they wouldn't mind parting with...
