Dome light won’t turn on

Hey everyone, my dome light won’t turn on 90% of the time. The other 10% it flashes quickly once at me. This only occurs with the driver side door. I have a 2009 ranger sport. What could I do to fix this or how do I replace it? Any help would be amazing. Thanks

Sounds like a bad door switch.

+1 ^^^^

Welcome to the forum

If passenger door open gets dome light 100% of the time then I would also speculate Drivers Door switch
In 2009 it is inside the door on the bottom of the latch, have to pull off the latch to replace it

My dome light stoped working long ago

In my 2005 I have had many issues with interior lights. Sometimes various lights on the instrument cluster would go out and then later start working again. At one point I needed a small flash light to see how fast I was going while driving at night. Then mysteriously the lights would begin to work again. I always figured this was just dust or dirt getting in the contact points, I am a carpenter and my truck is on dusty roads and jobsites where dust and dirt is everywhere. But when my dome light quit it was done. I tried the bulb but that was not the problem, I tried a fuse but that was not the issue either. Once again I figured it was some kind of wiring failure and electrical (especially automotive electrical) is not my strong suit. Any ideas any one?

Does your dome light not work when any doors are open or when you flick the interior lights on or does it work when you open certain doors

First thing I'd check is for power at the light itself. Hot to ground in the socket, and hot to a known good ground on the chassis. This will tell you if it's a power or a grounding issue.
