Don't Laugh

I've been thinking lately of how it would be cool to put an LED strip around my D-ring up front, thought it might look good at night. And today I was at Harbor freight and they had a 9" LED strip on sale for $6 so I figured why not give it a shot. Question is what 12V source do I tap into? And can I hook it up to a switch inside the cab so I can turn it on and off?

I would say tap into your fog lights but from the looks of your avatar I don't think you have any.

1) any 12v source.. make sure its a constantly hot source if you want to be able to have it on when you're parkin' lot posin'.
2) yes, you can put a switch on it.

you could just use its own power source. or if its for night purposes only, you could tap into the headlight one...i think its brown. and then you can only turn it on when your headlights are on. thats how my hellas are wired.

If it's wired for foglights I would just use the foglight wiring then.

but if you wire them to the fogs, it'll turn off when you turn your high beams on.

I'm going to try it this way first since I don't have a switch at the moment but I really want to put it on a switch.

I'll see how it looks, but I just think it would look better on the D-ring

I don't have the button for the fogs so should it just light up when I turn my headlights on?

Maybe. I have an extra foglight switch if you'd like to buy it for the small price of $10 shipped.

I don't have a high beam. I got HIDs. Ok I can't find the brown wire.. Is it solid Brown or is there a blue stripe or orange stripe in it.

It should. No promises though because I've never done it before.

Alright got it installed in a temporary form. I got it wired so I just plug it in to the 12v cig lighter for now. but I'll take a few pics at night with the HIDs on to see how it looks, here's a couple for now:

Its actually not that noticeable from a far. if you were passing me opposite direction you probably wouldn't notice right away.

I think it would look good at night. During the day it might look a little tacky.

I'm only going to use them at night. No sense using them during the day. But thanks! I'll get some night shots up for ya. Do you think I'd have any cop trouble with this? I know it very's from state to state but I've seen LED lights used as fogs around here. And I put my tow strap around it and gave it a couple good pulls and made sure it was tight around it and it still works so that's a plus ha.

You might get something said to you about it. I don't know about violating specific laws

just don't make it flash or you will attract unwanted attention.

if your HIDs are anywhere as blinding as mine, you may not really notice the d-ring.. I left my headlights on when I drove my sisters XTerra towards my truck and I understand why people flash me alllll the damn time.. I can only imagine how bad it is with the fogs on.
