door dinger mod

Hello

I took a look at the door dinger mod for pre-'03 Rangers, pulled out my stereo to have at it, but the GEM on my '97 is not the same as pictured in the mod procedure. There is only one connector, and I didn't find the specified wires.

Anybody know the procedure for a '97? That dinging is driving me nuts, and I've only had the truck a few days.

Help please,
Thanks

i did a mod on my dinger, i HATE having the ding with the key in, but lovethe head light on warning, so killing it off all together was not going down. i was working on on project and stephen.g.fiddes got a great idea and dug in the steering colom. we basically snipped a wire that goes to the key assembly with a blue thing on the end... end result no more key ding

Take the GEM apart and unsolder the little speaker.

Thats basically what I did, only I pulled the ignition assembly out and broke off the plastic switch piece. Also when it is out you can see a little metal tab the is sticking out of the hole on the column. That tab goes to the blue wire. I just broke that off as well as the switch piece that it touches and now no more dinger. Headlight dinger obviously still works.

I think I'm going to try this, if anyone can dig up pics that would be great. But I think as soon as I get the ignition piece out, I should see what you're talking about

Super easy, once you take the plastic covers off the steering column ( 3 screws) It's practically the first wire you see on the ignition cylinder
