BTW: were is Chesterton, IN? |
EATC question
I was wondering since I did my install today and the fan won't turn on. Everything else seems to work. I've checked all the connections and splices. It worked when I tested everthing.I'm working in Omaha,NE and of course I picked a day of mid to upper 90's.Chesterton is about 4 miles south of the very southern tip of Lake Michigan. About halfway between Gary and Michigan City.

is your fan blowing at all?
|
EATC question
No, I get about 1 volt on the fan controller reference wire. I also get zero volts across the fan controller and zero volts across the fan. It seems to me that I'm dropping the voltage else where. I've checked all my connections and respliced most just in case. The 12V constant and switched are also present at the head unit. I'm at a loss right now as to what voltages need to be at the various points in order to troubleshoot it further.

EATC question
I don't think it makes any difference but, I'm installing it in a 2005.

Figured it out. Bad crimp on the red/orange anf gray/yellow that picks up yhe factory fan relay. Thanks for the help. Last mod left to do is mount the home link in the OHC and get it to actuate with the button.

Isnt this supposed to be one of the harder mods out there?
Whats an average set up cost? |
EATC Question
I wired the Homelink into the map light +12 and ground of the OHC. I mounted the transmitter I got out of the visor of a Chrysler in the recess where the garage door opener would go. I just need to secure it in a way that the homelink button is pushed when I push the OHC garage button. I got it working just need to made it stay in that position
On the install I spent about an hour testing the components, 2 hours doing the preinstall, and about 3-4 hours doing the final install. Of course then another 5 hours finding the bad splice. Best thing is to read the instructions several times since the install varies depending on the year of both the Ranger and the EATC. Many thanks for the detailed write up as it makes it almost idiot proof if you take your time and pretest the components. I bought a complete setup from Biz with the blue lense since the u-pull's here had no explorers. About a week ago they got one in with the headunit case busted. I took the green cover off of it to put on mine and practiced taking the pieces out that I was going to install. It's a lot easier to figure it out with no hood, windshield, and a dask you don't care if you break a few things. Since I had removed all the other components I bought them in case any of the stuff I had bought previously was bad. Didn't need any of it so I'm selling all the extra stuff in the classified. Overall it turned out great and wasn't bad for a Saturday project. Dean |
EATC question
As far as cost I've got about $130. total invested and that includes all the extra stuff I pulled out.
I also took the gears out of my old blend door since my truck only has 30000 miles and put them in the blend door I had for the install. Dean |
I'm not ready to tackle the eatc mod yet, but I have access to homelink units from the new Taurus'. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to get it out of the visor though, they are hard plastic and a pita to remove anything without breakage. The ohc is a good idea and one I was cosidering, I was thinking of cutting the garage door button out of the ohc and trying to mount the homelink in that space so the buttons would be exposed.
Any pics or further info on how it goes would be much appreciated. |
EATC Question
I removed the whole plastic assembly from the visor in the wrecking yard with a boxcutter.
