Hardwiring accent lights? A little help please....

Currently I have 2 small neon accent lights hooked up inside of my center console vents. It looks really cool at night (see picture below which does not do them justice). As of right now I have them wired to a Toggle Switch and to a cigarette plug. I would LOVE to hardwire them so that I can actually free up my cigarette plug for my cell phone charger. I thought about wiring them somehow to something that only turns on when the headlights are on therefore I wouldn't accidentally leave them turned on (unless the headlights were left on). I realize that I then will be unable to turn them on unless the lights are on but I would only be using them at night.

Anyways...

How would I hard wire multiple neon accent lights to something that would go on with the headlights?

Also: What could I hardwire them to that runs off headlight activation without blowing out my power or something?

I am not very good with electrical stuff but Matt has given me some pointers so that I can wire stuff to a cigarette plug and wire in a on/off switch.

Any pointers would be great.
I am thinking of wiring in the lights in the vents and underneath the foot wells.

Thanks!

Depending on how much current they draw you could simply tap the power feed wire to the cig lighter, run it to the switch and back to the lights. If your going to be adding more lights I would run a dedicated power feed from the battery junction box back inside the cab to feed the lights. Make sure to use an appropriately rated fuse at the battery junction box side (within a few inches) where you tie in at.

Positive to the brown wire of the headlight switch, negative to chassis ground.

It is very important to wire and insulate it carefully so it will be reliable. Allowing anything powered from the brown wire to contact ground will blow the fuse for the exterior running lights and the dash night illumination.
