Electronic key and cold weather
 

I have a 2007 Ranger Sport, since the cold weather has hit I have had 2 instances where the key would not start the truck, the ignition light on the dash flashed when I put the key in. The key turned but it would not start. After the key spent time in my pocket it started.
I have read that the electronic interface can be bypassed but they all seem to require that a key be buried in the dash in some fashion. As the key seems to be the issue here I wonder it there is a better way.
The local stealer has quoted me over $200 for a new key.
