Electronic odometer quit working after changing steeringwheel
I recently bought a 1999 mazda b4000 and it was a southern truck and cruise switches on the wheel were in bad shape from heat damage. (black truck). So found new wheel with switches and changed it out. Now the electronic odometer does not come on at all. Neither does the cruise.. All other instruments and lights seem to be fine. Cannot find fuse for cruise or odometer on diagram. Any suggestions? Did work prior to wheel change.
thanks in advance. |
Not sure what I was thinking

my 01 ranger is manual as well - the auto shift indicator area has a blank off plate. I too am used to a digital odometer being there and panic when im driving thinking it died haha. Might be a dumb question but you did plug the cruse button harness thing into the clock spring on the steering wheel when you put the new wheel on right? Check for any blown fuses? I saw the cruse ribbon cables like to chafe easily
What year did you get the steering wheel out of? I got these replacement switches for my 01 and fit perfect but note the years it fits. |
Not sure the problems are related
Yes odometer is driven by an electric motor and plastic worm gear Speedometer and odometer share the same "speed signal" wire that comes from the GEM(generic electronic module) So if speedometer is working and odometer is not then problem will most likely be the plastic worn gear is bad or the electric motor for it, both are known issues for Ranger after 1995. Does cruise turn on and off by the buttons on steering wheel? If not then most likely issue is wires in the steering wheel did not get connected or disconnected on install |
