Let's talk about OBD (2, duh)
Ok, I'm doing some research because I am wanting to put an OBDII Bluetooth reader to stream data to my tablet (or computer). I'm also planning to add a second OBDII port in or near my soon to be installed explorer center console.
But I bought a reader off ebay, and it's not working. I've read they often don't work with a J1850 protocol that is used on Fords.
I'm trying to figure out what these wires are actually for.
Check this graphic:
And this is a OBDII port I snagged from like a '99 or something. not sure if it'll be the same in my 06 but I'm lazy, this is in my room, and my truck isn't.
So it has connectors in pins 2, 4, 5, 7, 10, 13, 16. It should be J1850 PWM (pulse width modulation, GM's use J1850 VPW). According to what I've read, I should have pins 2, 4, 5, 10, and 16 to mean I have J1850 PWM. But what are these other pins that have connections for?
Pin 2 - J1850 Bus+
Pin 4 - Chassis Ground
Pin 5 - Signal Ground
Pin 6 - CAN High (J-2284)
Pin 7 - ISO 9141-2 K Line
Pin 10 - J1850 Bus
Pin 14 - CAN Low (J-2284)
Pin 15 - ISO 9141-2 L Line
Pin 16 - Battery Power
Ford Gurus. Check some wiring.

Most of those are just for communication between the SJB and the separate modules.
I suppose it boils down to what kind of data do you want to see. If you want to see all of it. I suggest getting some kind of diagnostic program for your Tablet and making it communicate via bluetooth
Let me poke around some diagrams fo' a bit.

Well, I got the torque app. I just think the bluetooth reader I got doesn't support the protocol Fords use. I don't really understand much of it. I know some people have been making their own OBD readers though, which I can't really grasp.
And for that record, my wire colors for this 99 match up to the 06, except the 99 doesn't have anything in pin 14.
What exactly is CAN BUS? (yes, heading to google now....)
