Alternator Brushes Wearing Quick?
I just replaced my alternator brushes in March on my '99 Ranger. Now, the alternator is giving trouble again. It isn't charging the battery, and I have been having trouble with dimming lights, etc. Last night, it quit completely. The mechanic said it needs new brushes and a regulator.
I live in Belize, so things are interesting as far as mechanics go... so I am not sure what to think. Why would I need brushes again so soon? Any ideas?

If you can get a replacement alternator i would go that route, if the brushes are wearing fast, this could be due to the surface where the brushes ride being worn out. you say in a previous thread that you drive alot in dusty conditions, if the alternator gets alot of debris in it, this may cause that.
