engine swap
engine swap
i was wondering on a 95 xl with a 2.3, if i took the eng mngt wiring harness would the body electrical harness still be intact?, i am asking since i am doing a v8 and carb swap and wanting to use the factory fuse panal and or the factory body electrical minus the engine management....thank you

Yes, you will need to open up some engine bay harness's to remove the engine wires that go to the computer, but the computer didn't have any connection to GEM(body computer), cab fuse box or other systems
You will want to leave the Oil Pressure sender wire, and the Temp sender wire for use on the V8 for dash gauges
Also the Tach wire if so equipped
Depending on if its a manual or automatic you will need to jumper the START circuit, or rewire to work with new transmission
Ranger manual has a clutch pedal switch, automatic has a DTR switch on transmission in 1995, these prevent "starting in gear", so safety switches, the DTR is also the Reverse light switch

The GEM thats for the most part for the 4wd controller for the lack of better terms, i have i 2wd truck though.
No, GEM is the Body computer, it runs the interior lights, wipers, door locks, power windows, and 4wd if so equipped
If you don't have the Power group, door locks and windows, then it just for wipers and interior dome light activation when door is opened

Sweet so technically the turn sig/ hazard park and headlights to include brake lights will not be in the GEM ckt? The xl is pretty much basic minus ps and wipers or atleast yhe way i see it....appreciate it bossman....
