Ever replace a front axle???

Has anyone here ever replaced their front axle??? lately i've been hearing this ticking noise coming from what seems to sound like my front drivers side wheel. my friend (mechanic for ford) took it for a drive, listened to it, and said it sounds like the axle, but is quiet.. and that i shouldnt be too conserned about it. well, it annoys me, lol. i was just wondering if anyone has replaced our front axles.. if so... what dd you go with.. any recommendations, any info at all??? thanks guys

Ford wanted 600$ for one when i replaced my drivers side CV.

I bought one off of cvsunlimited.com for around 120-150 shipped can't remember.

Its easy to replace.

PVH hubs havent been made since mid 2000...

Its an easy swap. I did one in an autozone parking lot in about an hour.

Go to a junkyard. The last one I got in a hurry was only 70 bucks, but they can be had cheaper...

EDIT: BTW its an axle shaft, not an axle. that would be the whole assembly...

they are the same jey, drvers or passenger. the only diffference is that there is an extender shaft for the passenger that just pulls off and on. but the actually cv axles are the same.
