Explorer overhead console fitment issue?

Explorer overhead console fitment issue?

Hey guys, haven't posted in a while. I am trying to install an explorer overhead console in my 2003 single cab edge. I noticed my sheet metal looks different than all the other installs I've seen and I can't get the fitment correct. The back of the console wants to curve away from the headliner. Just wondering if I am over looking anything. See the pictures below. Thanks guys.

that looks about right i didn't have the slotted holes further back like you do but after you put the mounting plate in the back it will push the headliner down and when you put the screws into it it wall draw the console to it mine looked kinda whacky at first to.

Thanks for the reply. Those slots shown in the picture were existing in the cab sheet metal. You can see the end of the slots I cut in the very bottom of the picture
