My power windows seem to chatter when going down sometimes. weather doesnt matter, hot or cold they seem to do it. They adjusted them, but they still do it sometimes and its annoying. Next oil change ill try to take it to the dealer and get them looked at again.
Other than that..... they are pretty solid. Theres people on here that swear the slave cylinders on the manual trans 4.0s are junk, but you have a warranty for sometime so thats not a concern NOW but keep an eye on it.
Umm... electrical you shouldnt have any issues... engine should be fine... rear end should be fine.
BTW post pics! i wanna see how the side airbag seats look!

The slave cylinder sucks, other than that everything else should be fine. Don't think that the 4.0 is a gas sipper in any way. The 2010 will sit lower than the 07 or later since the torsion keys are different. I'm not sure on what you want your Ranger for. The factory tires suck.

Truck will be Oxford white with dark grey interior.
I'm not an off roader.....4X4 is for winter driving.
It'll haul light stuff and basically just be my all weather vehicle.
Right now, leaning towards a white line X coated bed and a hard 1 piece tonneau cover that's locakble.
the truck has a 3 yr. warranty. I am hoping that the slave cylinder issue will be handled if not in my model year, then by the time the warranty is over.
Thanks for the responses.

All in all, the slave cylinders in these trucks are about the only downfall. They literally are a ticking time bomb. Some last 100k, some last 10k.....it's really up in the air how long they last.
There's not many TSB's out there yet for the newer models(08+). And there's been no recalls that I can remember.

EXACTLY how mine does it too. Starting from all the way up they are ok or minimal chatter at most. If i stop part way, then go down, about 60% of the time they will do it.
Everything else on the truck is great though. Its no fuel sipper with the 4.0 for sure though. Its gotten better, but im still only getting averages of 18-18mpg tankful averages out of it. Im switching to synthetic oil next time around. I gained almost 1mpg out of my old 04 3.0 when i did that.
Yes factory tires suck. I almost got a stuck in some gravely dirt when i stopped in then restarted going while at my storage units unpaved lot.
Ummm.... lets see... one of my mirror caps is slightly looser than the other one.... im stretching for what other problems or annoyances i can think of.
The Ranger isnt a bad truck at all. Its old, and its not as fancy as some other ones on the market. I just like how its not as huge as the Tacoma, and ill admit that the price of the truck is a mahor selling point. I paid $16K for mine and for that price at a Toyota dealer i would have gotten a 4 banger regular cab SR5 Tacoma at best. Screw that. My uncle has an 08 Tacoma thats similar equipped to my truck but its a 4 banger, and not the prerunner package and it cost a few thousand more than mine. Theres nothing wrong with that at all, but still... i got a hell of a lot more truck than he did, and for less.

My MANUAL windows do that. lol.
And just what Steve said, stock tires SUCK! As does any vehicle with stock tires. The single best improvement you can do to any vehicle, is put a good set of tires on it. Don't be cheap and run the stock's til they're dead, spend some money on your investment, and throw on a set of BFG All Terrains on it. GREAT all around tire with EXCELLENT tread wear characteristics.

I have the window chatter too.. it's a bit annoying.
The rear brakes tend to stick in wet weather for the first few stops (had this problem on 2 Rangers).
Gas mileage isn't the greatest, but it's not too bad if you drive reasonably. And with a manual you can probably get decent MPG if you don't accelerate too hard all the time.
The stock tires suck.. Goodyear RT/S are probably the worst tires ever made. If you are going to use the truck for winter driving, definitely get better tires.
Other than that, they are pretty reliable. I'm on my second Ranger and I've only been to the dealer for a few very minor issues.

Only problems I have had, and have since been fixed by the dealer is (1) Had a rear axle seal leaking on passanger side, not a huge deal just noticed it when i was rotating tires, at around 20 thousand kms. (2) Had the right front shock strip and break one of the studs off on the LCA , again around 20 thousand kms.
Both were fixed without any hassle....and needless to say there was a crap load of mud under the truck and they know I go out in it.
Best of luck and I love my ranger.

im another for the slave cylinder... gets annoying other than that you wont really have any issues unless you get stuck with a lemon.
I saw someone say something about having the weakest engine?? mine has taken out a newer style ram 1500, 03' s10 4.3L an 08' f-150 harley (non supercharged) and a few others so for a truck of its size it has plenty of power.
