Factory trailer lights issue.

Hello everyone,First of all I was excited to find this forum. I hope you can help.
I have a 98 ranger xlt 4x4. All of a sudden the factory trailer lights connection for the left trailer signal/brake light has stopped working. The right and running lights are fine. It has the flat 4 pin plug on the truck. When I take my multi-meter and read each of the pins to ground I get voltage on the right tail light pin with the brake applied but not the left tail light. The lights on the truck are fine, it's the the left turn/brake trailer light. I even pulled the spare and checked where the trailer light pigtail plugs into the harness but still the same.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I'd check for a fuse. That is odd how it is only affecting the one side with everything. Could just be some corrosion in the harness too. You're doing right with the multimeter, just gotta keep moving farther back until you find power.

Thanks for the input. Do you know if there is some device on the truck that combines the turn and brake lites for the trailer. The truck has separate amber turns, and red brake lites.

Welcome home,

Left and right turn/brake lights for trailer connector each have their own fuse:
In 1998 Fuse #7 for the Left side, fuse #3 for the right side, both are 7.5amp fuses

Ford added this in the late '90's so a short in trailer wiring wouldn't take out the trucks tail lights

It blew for a reason..........so get a couple of extra fuses or use an OHM meter to check for short to ground on the trucks trailer wiring or on the trailer's wiring.
