Fan rattle/squeak inside cab

I went out today to drive to the store, and when I turned the truck on, I noticed this nasty sound coming from the dash. I thought at first it was my new exhaust rattling something, but that's not it.

I noticed when I turned the fan and a/c off, the noise stops, so I know it's an HVAC type thing. It sounds like fan blades are spinning and hitting on something. It gets louder and squeals with the fan turned up higher as well. My a/c and heat still work, but it sounds awful.

I was thinking a blend door problem, but my symtoms don't really match up with what I have been reading through searching. But, it does sound like it's behind the glove compartment. Any ideas on what it could be?

I can try to get a sound clip if I really need to. Truck specs are in my signature.

Thanks

I had the same thing in my truck. I kept meaning to fix it but was to busy then about a week or two later it just stopped. I later found a recipt had fallen out of my glove box and landed in watever fan is back there. Try cleaning out your clove box and see if you can clean behind it too. Maybe you'll find it that way.

Yea, I took the glove box down, I can see the fan spinning. So I disconnected all the crap under the hood and took out the fan. Only thing I had was a small leaf, I don't know how that got there, but I don't think it could explain the loud noise and the squeak I was hearing.

On a side note, don't try to turn that fan on when you have it out of that hole. Mine wobbled and broke, haha. So I'll be replacing that today, son of a b*tch, haha.

Guess I'll just be getting a new blower motor and plastic fan wheel. Anybody know if I should replace the resistor thing as well? Mine looks a bit rusted. Probly wouldn't hurt to get a new cabin filter too if I'm in there?

Ok, another problem. Got another blower motor from a junk yard. Works great, no rattle and squeak like the old one was doing. Guy said it looked like mine was blowing up. It was black as all hell.

Now, my problem is, I turn on the air, ac, heat, everything. It only blows out the top defrost vents on the windshield. Guess I can check my fuses and see if I blew something, but I dunno. Any suggestions?

I would say you disconnected either a vacuum line or a wire that controls the vent's operation. Take it apart again, and check over the connections.

Yea, there's a rubber hose that's connected to all of it.. I double checked and air was getting out into the engine bay. All fixed. End thread.
