Fix for busted coolant by pass "routing clip"? (2.3)
 

OOPS.... I will leave the original post with my mistake, in case it helps anyone else. But there is only the one "coolant bypass hose routing clip" (the unbroken one in my pics). The broken thing I was asking about is really a clip for the PCV hose. Original post is below the line.

Just did PCV valve replacement on my 2003 2.3 DOHC Ranger. In the process I broke a brittle plastic doodad the service manual calls a "Coolant Bypass Hose Routing Clip". Shown in the pics is the unbroken one and all that remains of the other bit. The good one snaps on a tang molded into the oil vapor separator cover, next to the PCV valve (pic 2). The busted one threads onto a threaded stud sticking out near where the EGR pipe connects. In Pic 3, my finger points at the busted bit threaded on that small stud.

Should I care or let the hose just hang and bounce? If I should care, I can't find the actual part and wonder if anyone knows of an aftermarket version, or has a MacGyver workaround?

You don't want the hose to touch EGR pipe as it gets very very HOT, but other than that, no, you don't need that clip if you can secure the hose another way

Next time you are at wrecking yard or ford dealer pick one up

Thanks Ron, I can't find a new part offered at any Ford-parts websites but haven't tried old school phoning the parts desk at the dealer.

My bad..... the broken clip is really for the PCV hose. Here's the pic in the service manual

I would check at a ford dealer, if the part was brittle and easily broken then they should have a few in stock or have an updated part that works better

Nada; Next time I have to take the IM out, I'll get an after market oil catch can but for now I thought I'd post my MacGyver solution. Not saying this will work...... The thread on the stud is metric 6-10. I got a barrel nut that size and stuck it on with blue threadlock. Covered with some scrap hose, cut long, and eased all the sharp-ish edges on the free end in case anything rubs. News at 11.
