Flasher relay?
The flasher relay on my 2004 Ranger won't stop clicking. It's running down my battery. I've replaced the relay bit it didn't fix the problem. Any other suggestions?

Welcome to the forum
Fuse 17 and fuse 20 in the cab fuse box are for the flasher Fuse 17 is for the 4-way hazards, has 12volts all the time Fuse 20 is for the turn signals, only has 12v with key on See which one causes flasher to stop, I would think 17 because its full time power If so then could be 4-way switch is bad, which is part of the multi-function switch(turn signal arm) I assume the lights are flashing, because flasher can't flash/click, unless lights are connected? There is also the keyless entry system, it flashes the PARKING LIGHTS, not turn signals, thats fuse 31 for the parking light relay |
It's fuse 17. I pulled it to stop it from draining the battery. All the flasher functions (turn signals and emergency flashers) work normally and turn off normally but the the relay continues to click.

Then there is a "load" on the the wire from flasher to Multi-function switch, could be in the 4-way switch or the wire itself
You will need to disassemble clam shell covers on the steering wheel to get access to the multi-function switch plug in There are several videos and how-tos on changing the multi-function switch Unplug the multi-function switch and insert fuse 17 again If there is no 'clicking' then plug switch in, if clicking starts then problem is in the switch If there is 'clicking' with switch unplugged then problem is in the wire to fuse 17, check the light blue and white/red stripe wires |
Thank you, I'll try that.

Found the problem.
I took the truck down to rotate the tires and asked the tech about the relay problem. Without hesitation he said to replace the multifunction switch. I did and it fixed it. 30 minutes and $45. Done.
