Fog light install question
2003 ranger , I have the plug for the fog lights switch in my dash. there wasn't any switch on the radio surround. Picked up right surround with switch.
Can not locate harness plug anywhere under truck for fog lights. Can I purchase correct harness for lights or is there anywhere I can tap into to connect the fogs? I just might make my own harness & use the dash switch. Ideas and diagrams Please. Thanks in advance :biggthump |
you will need two micro relays one isolation relay and one fog lamp relay they are both the same part number, the wiring should also be there.
Here is a video that shows 1A auto replacing fog lamps, yet you can see where the harness originate from ( they are probably just ted up some where out of the way). |
It has been a few weeks, how did this go ?
Was also wondering why you just didn't wire up the fogs with a home made or after market harness ? Easy to do and can be wired with an on/off/on switch to run with headlights (auto) or without the head lights. I know the factory setup work sweet but I separated my lighting to eliminate all switches and hole in the Radio Bezel. |
Due to death in family things were put on hold.
Now that things are settling down, I have finally located the wiring diagram I needed to use a stock fog light switch . Found a bezel with the fog light switch at the bone yard. will be using a home made wire harness with the factory switch as soon as I find a fog light set I like. |
Sorry to hear about your situation !
Again, if you are using a home made harness, why not just wire in a relay on a separate switch ? Ford uses a ground switch system on some of the lighting, so you need to know about this before wiring and either allow for it or wire around it. I am not sure what the best way to approach an OEM Switch in a std wiring harness might be. You will need to work out what the through wiring is to use an aftermarket relay setup. There was a write up on using a Ford Switch with an aftermarket harness on this site, search for it and it might help out ! Not sure this one will help but it was the first I found: https://www.ranger-forums.com/interi...lights-112023/ |
My plans are using just the switch (plug included) & home made harness (with relay) with separate hard wiring and fuse. Just want the oem look without adding another switch or drilling another hole.
Thanks for your input |

Thanks for your input There was a guy on the Site, Buggman I think, that had a Home Made Harness made for just what you are thinking on. Not sure if he is still around, a good guy, had a lot of small project written up for the Ranger; he also did LED Project too. Please post a How-To describing the pin out and how you wired it up. It should look good leaving the OEM Switch in place, good go ! Ltr |
I found info in diy submissions How to : install fog lights no existing factory wiring.

Finally got things settled. Fog lights installed & pleased with results. Nice clean Factory look inside. Made custom harness & all nice and neat.
Refinish job on face plate per my son. |
I got a 1995 Ford Ranger XLT Extended Cab 4.0. I got the plug tucked into the bumper. Were do you bolt the fog lights to, is there a bracket or do you have to make one or drill one,
