Alright. I gotta noob question for you guys. I've read some people talking about new chips for their truck (ex. Bamachip progammer). Now I know this has to do with the onboard computer, but what is it exactly and how does it affect the performance of the truck?

Ahh hell just so you dont have to look all of that up.. Pretty much what it does is adjusts your Air to fuel ratio through out your power band to provide more power.. There is no point in running 93 octane gas in a stock vehicle because its tuned from the factory to run on 87. I have an 87 performance program, 93 performance and 93 torque program on mine. It works very well and you can immediately feel the power difference after programming the computer to one of those settings. Its the best spent money I have done and it does improve gas milage. I went from 22mpg mixed driving to 27mpg on the 93 octane settings. I hope this helped just a little bit.

So you can switch between different modes depending on what you need? Is it an easy install? If so, it sounds like a great idea when I get some spare change.

 

I was looking at the Bamachip site this morning and I have a better idea of how this works. Which product to most of you guys have? I was looking at the XCalibrator tuner. Does this program the existing chip, or do I still need to replace the chip as well?
