How to wire up a tach?
Hey everyone, I bought a tach from a friend & I need help wiring it up on a '99 F-150 6cyl. It has a red, black, green, & white wire coming from it & I know where the red & black go & the green one goes to the "coli pack" or "coil" or something like that & we need to where that is also. But any help would be greatly appreciated!

i dont think having multiple coils matters... im thinking theres a tach signal wire coming from the pcm or somewhere that gives an accurate reading if you tap into it. on my 2003 and 97 ranger i *think* the wire is brown/yellowstripe.... dunno if it would be exactly the same on the f1.
EDIT: heh oops explains it in the article... still dunno how similar the f1 would be...

Check to see if the '99 has a tan/yellow wire at PCM pin 48. The latest F-series no longer have it but there is a good chance that his does.
This wire carries the RPM pulse from the PCM to the factory tach on many Ford applications. It will usually work fine for aftermarket tachs, too.
Make sure that the tach is either made for a six cylinder or can be adjusted for one. On some aftermarket tachs, there are small wire loops that can be cut to adjust for the cylinder count.
