Fooling comp to thing ABS is still there?
 

So i ripped out the abs in my truck as i no longer need it. my question is now the truck thinks theres a problem with it and keeps my abs light on. Is there a way to fool the computer in to thinking that it is still working or to just turn it off completely. any wiring tricks or anything?

Why not remove the cluster and cut the light??

when i went for emissions last the tech told me all the lights on the dash have to flash then turn off, so an abs light not flashing would fail me right away before they even test me. now i do not know if they can tell which vehicle came with abs from the factory or not. if this is not the case i would just remove it. plus it will throw codes and thats another thing i dont want

The PCM is not involved here. The ABS module grounds the bulb to turn it on.

Normally, I wouldn't want to see anyone disable the ABS indicator light. However, since you have the ABS disabled permanently, the light is doing no good anyway. I would either remove the bulb from the cluster or snip the dark green wire that leads to pin 6 of the 10 pin connector of the instrument cluster. It would be easier to access the other end of that same dark green wire underhood at the ABS module connector and cut it there. That should kill the bulb.

could you jump it to the "check gage" light once you disabled the dinger bob said about. Then it would come on when the "check gage" light comes on :scool:

if i jumped it to the check gage it would flash with the check gage at start up correct? cause thats what im looking for is it to flash at startup the stay off.

It would work as long as the check gauge light comes on at start-up. Just something to power the stupid light to get you by on inspection =]

Couldn't you just pull the ABS fuse and then the whole thing would be powered down?

He completely removed his abs system and now his light just stays on. He needs to make it so that the abs light blinks @ start up and diag for inspection. I'd say disable that dinger Bob mentioned, cut the wire supplying power to the light, run the wire from the light spliced into the "check gage" light's power wire. That's what I'd do in that situation.

Yes, as long as you pulled all of them that matter. There are like 4 or 5 of them that have something to do with ABS. Problem is that some of them may feed other components, too.

A dead simple approach would be to just unplug the ABS module. 4WABS has the module under the hood and I think RABS has it in the dash somewhere. That should kill the bulb.

If he needs to have the bulb light on key up, then he could just ground it from another idiot light circuit that comes on for a self test. Using the Check Gage light circuit as suggested above could be a little bit difficult because it gets it ground from the Anti-Slosh module which is part of the cluster. There are no external wires to tap into.

Well, find another dummy light to splice into then......sorry l never had my cluster off. That was a "for example", any of the lights that come on at startup I guess could be used. Just a matter of tapping into the easiest one, I guess.

my next question is when someone plugs into the OBD theres going to be a code that says the ABS isnt working correct? Can i get someone to just clear it or is there a way to get rid of the thrown code also?

D has a digimoto (sp?) and he might beable to turn such a thing off

but bob said the ABS isnt even dealt with at the PCM, so wouldnt that lead you to believe that it wont show on the ODBII port?

The ABS codes are stored in the ABS module and they can be accessed from the DLC port. I haven't tried it but I would think that, if the ABS module were removed, there would be no code(s) to pull.
