Transfer case replacement issues

Can the transfer case (the male part that goes into into the transfer case motor) be turned by hand to line up with the new TC motor?

Can I use vice grips on a piece of rubber over the shaft end to turn it to match with the motor?

Thanks.

Yes, you can turn it manually.

Many have to do that when shift motor fails.
It is usually easy to turn but make sure vehicle wheels are blocked!!!
And all the pressure is off the drive lines, i.e. shift trans to Neutral AFTER blocking the wheels!!!!
If you have an automatic, block the wheels!!!, start engine, shift into Neutral and shut engine off.
