Fuel Filter Lines, how do they disconnect?
 

On my 05 edge the fuel line connections to the filter are a black rubber with what looks like a clip (orange and green) that slides into the connector to grab the flange at the end of the fuel filter spout. does that little clip slide up with force allowing it to disconnect or is there a special tool needed to get it to release?

Those orange and green clips push in and the line come right off. front line i used a small screwdriver and the clip came right out. no special tools needed for 01+

Dont break it I did on mine and it cost me a lot to fix, good luck man

I just finished doing this to my truck. ^^^^Like he said the coloured tabs just push in and the lines pop off. I used the fale edge of a small screwdriver to push mine in as they were very stiff. And remember to take the pressure off the line before you do it, dont want a shot of gas in the face. :puke:

so the small holes, you have to push something inside on both sides and pry out on the tab and it will just lift? or just prying on the tab will do it. I saw the holes and figured you had to have something to push into them.

If they are stiff some pliers would be the best bet, to lightly depress the tabs into the fitting. As mentioned, relieve the pressure before messing with it.

the small holes don t do anything just push in on the large coloured tabs and gently wiggle them off once you hit the right spot they come off like nothing

sweet, thanks guys, I was trying to get all my maintenance done today but ran out of daylight and figured I'd quit before I broke something trying to figure it out.

pull your fuse, start the truck, when it starts to sputter and die, kill the truck. do you filter swap. once that's done, cycle the fuel pump a few times to get the fuel up to hte injectors, start hte truck, bam done.

There's actually an inertia switch to kill the fuel pump. Meant for accidents, but great for purging the fuel lines.
It's by the pass side footwell in my 01 behind the trim. Little red button with a slot for a flathead. Pop it up while running, it will kill the fuel and the truck will die. Push it back in when ready to restart.

ok, I didn't know about the slot for the flathead, I just unpluged it from the connector when I started doing it earlier. I gave up though when I ran into the filter connectors. I'll hit it again tomorrow.

Slot's just below the top of the housing for the button.

I've used the A/C / Fuel line disconnect tools (got it at Sears), but to be honest I think the screwdriver trick after you push the colored clips through works better. Never could get enough leverage using the disconnect tool.

Update:

I just changed my fuel filter in my 2001 4.0 SOHC. I used a Wix filter. The screwdriver works great on the fuel lines, just dont use much force. If they are tight use something to clean/loosen it up. Mine was pretty dirty so a 'lil WD-40 was used on the fuel lines.

I used the inertia switch to bleed the fuel pressure as mentioned above. The lines came off quick. Remove the nut holding the fuel filter in the frame to give you a little more wiggle room. I removed the orange and green connectors first and then the one with the white clip last. I just pushed it out gently with a small screwdriver. Only lost a tiny bit of gas. Make sure the lines snug up in with a slight click.
Install new filter and lines. Start up engine-Check for leaks. You're done.
