Icon4 wiring harness failure PLEASE HELP!!

the check engine light came on and said it was an evap code and I had to replace this canister but my mechanic said that the wiring harness that goes from the rear differential and plug in under the passenger seat is corroded and needs to be replaced but that it wasnt a pressing issue and so i drove off and now the gas gauge stopped working it says I have a full tank when i dont and my mechanic says that its cuz the wiring harness needs to be replaced. How much is it going to cost me? Is it safe to get the piece from the junk yard? Could it be anything else?

Not sure if I know what I'm talking about, but what the hell does the evap system have to do with the rear differential? I think he's telling you you have seperate issues...The evap code usually is the black canister looking thing right against the firewall in the engine bay and its right up against the driver's side. It holds all the vapors from the motor and recycles the fumes back into the combustion chamber, its an emissions thing.....Check these hoses and wires going to it...

I would not advice getting wiring harness's at junk yards.....You never know what your getting, it could have a problem.....The Harness won't be cheap either.........You could be a shade tree Mechanic and just hard wire the bad spot and use some heavy duty butt connectors and heat shrink wrap... I would not though, just saying....

Also I don't think you gauge has anything to do with these harnesses he's talking about. The sending unit is part of the fuel pump. Also are you saying the harness runs from the diff and runs under the passenger seat? Get a New Mechanic is my advice...

First off what year is your ranger and what type motor etc? Having a signature would help a bunch.

With that information I can help you.

The fuel harness runs under the driver seat, when the gauge has no connection the will read full.

My truck the harness had frayed on the seat bold and shorted my fuel pump to the fuel sender. I pulled the harness out of the truck and repaired it with solder and heat shrink. It wasn't a complicated process, but the bed and tank needs to come out/off. No if the connecter is shot then the dealer has parts for it, you can replace it.

So my advice is to crawl under your truck and check it out. Look where the seat bolts for the driver seat come through the floor and these harnesses sit on top of a plastic shelf on the inside of the frame.
