I can't find the thing. My repair manual says its supposed to be behind the kick panel on the passenger side for a 99 Ranger, but there is no kick panel. The only panel on the driver side is the fuse box. Can anyone tell me where it is? I gotta replace the fuel filter.

 

The inertia switch in my 2000 is on the floor in front of the passengers feet. The kick panel they are refering to is the plastic piece that is on the floorand runs up the door jamb. You have to pull it off. There is one or two of those plastic anchor pins holding it on.

 

to my nollege you dont have to mess with that switch being its for when you get in a accident and it cuts the fuel out. its like a circuit braker reset if you understand. and its on the passenger side next to your right foot if your sitting in the seat. above that grey plastic under the dash......

 

i can get to mine with out pulling it off? its right above the panel you can see the button

 

Zach I think he is looking to pull the plug on it and then start the truck. The truck will stall out in a few seconds and then you are't pouring fuel all over the place. I don't think itz neccessary either but it does work. When you are done you just plug the harness back in and press the button.

Thanks for the help. I ended up not worrying about the switch, just drained the gas in the line. But then a new problem arose - I couldn't get one of the lines detached from the filter. The three different quick disconnect tools I tried did nothin. I could get them in their but the filter never got any looser. Any suggestions for that problem, other than take it a pro, which is what I'm afraid I'll have to do?

 

I had the same problem with my '98. The fittings are stainless steel but they are open to the elements and the spring seizes up with all that crap that gets up in there. The first thing to do is get some WD-40 or PB blaster and soak both fittings. Wait a little bit and soak them again and then use some compressed air and blow it out. Install the compression tool and slowly rock it back and forth to get it to seat all the way down. It should come out.

If it still won't budge you can do two things. Take it to a mechanic and have them try but they will mostly likely do the following thing if they can't get it to budge is either cut the filter and remove the spring and replace the spring which Ford does carry, or they will cut the entire fitting off and use a serivce replacement fitting or you can do it yourself.
