Gauge Cluster for '03 Ranger, Centered Speed_O

Does anyone know of a Gauge Cluster, that will fit my 2003 Dash, and has the Speed-O centered and two smaller gauges on each side.

Oh ya, the biggy... "No Odometer Reset Button" !

I am thinking the '97 Economy Model might and has more of a chance at not having an Odometer Reset but I am not familiar with these parts.

I am looking for the enclosure, mainly the front section of the Gauge Cluster; I do not need the gauges, or any of the electronics !

Just something I am thinking on and may do a dash change IF it turns out ok.

Thanks for any help !

I've been reading, did not find any Gauge Cluster Lenses without an Odometer Reset Button.

BUT I started wondering about two things:

1) Will a Gauge Cluster from an '06 fit the Dash of an '03, no wiring to consider ? This one being the easiest, if this Cluster Fits my '03 Dash, and there is no Odometer Reset Button then I can use the newer Cluster as a housing for my new project.

To take my own advice, I should go to a JY and check things out... BUT... I do not know where there are any U-Pick-It Yards in the Temecula, CA area.

2) Will the Lens of the Gauge Cluster of an '06+ Ranger fit the Gauge Cluster of an '03 Cluster ?

Thanks ahead of time for any information.

2004 to 2011 Rangers have an HEC(hybrid electronic cluster) that has a microprocessor(mini computer) inside, and it is "married" to the PCM(engine computer) so neither will work without the other
This was Ford answer to people swapping in lower mile odometers to sell their Fords for more money

Quite literally, if you unplug the cluster on a 2004 Ranger engine will not start, if you swapped in another 2004 or 2006 cluster it also would not start
So no on the 2006 Cluster!!!

1998 to 2000 Cluster without TACH look like this: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/1999-99-2000-00-Ford-Ranger-Instrument-Speedometer-Gauge-Cluster-178k-Miles/233157557006?epid=1011140577&hash=item364945fb0e:g :FH8AAOSw8NlcgCCu

I think they fit size wise but need to have a few wires re pinned

Trip odometer reset can be removed, not sure if clear cover can be transferred to get rid of the hole

"They" are doing alot with LCD displays now in vehicles, so gauges are just images not actual gauges, so can be arranged any where any size on the display, they just use OBD2 data like a reader does, I think oil pressure and fuel level needs to have converters

Thanks for the reply.
I have been doing my reading on the Web, per my last post... quoted above.
It appears the newer Gauge Cluster doesn't have a Reset Button through the lens and the lens has no holes; that's what I want. (a lot of dust out here in SoCal)
Although, I like the looks of the newer Gauge Setup, '04 +, and I knew there was a problem with using the newer Cluster electrically, I didn't know what you posted, very interesting.
I assumed from the get go, that the clusters are physically interchangeable, again I assumed, I did not attempt a fitment because I didn't have an '04+ available.

So... my last question is, "Will the '04+ Gauge Clusters Fit in the location of my '03 Gauge Cluster, bolt up, but no electrical connections, and conform to the Dash Panel ?

What I am trying to achieve is a Cluster Housing, non electrical, with no holes in the lens, that I can use as a mounting point for three gauges, a 3 3/8" Digital Speed-O, centered, and two Digital, 2 5/8" Gauges, one Oil pressure and one Water Temperature, on each side, along with a number of small LEDs as directionals and indicator lights. this is something I had been working on back in MA and just got around to thinking on the project again, and didn't want to use the two older cluster housings/lens assemblies I have because of the Reset Hole in the lens. yes it will take a little more work because I will need to run new wiring for all of the gauges but that is more time than anything else.

Again, thx for the info you have given me and anything you can post about this situation I put myself in !

If this idea falls thorough, I have a backup plan, an older Cluster with only the Speed-O, no Tach, Cluster... new RED Lettered Gauge Panels, all three pieces, and I will need to bother you once again with the wiring for the earlier Cluster in the '03 EDGE Dash. Thx

The 2004 and up plexiglass covers don't look quite the same as 2003 and earlier, just looking at ebay listings

There is no "electrical" conversion between 2003 and 2004 type clusters, 2004 gets most of its display information over the "network" in the truck, it "talks" with all the other modules and the PCM over this "CAN Bus" network

CAN Bus is now a standard on most vehicles, Fords included, so best to start learning about it, read here on the basics: https://news.voyage.auto/an-introduc...r-f1b18be4f377

Home depot and other places sell plexiglass sheets, just need a jig saw to cut it, leaving tabs to attach it or glue it in place, and it is not that hard to bend it, i.e. bend longer tabs down on the sides to attach to the cluster, just need some heat
Not at all hard to work with

Thanks for your input.
I will need to check out the fitment of the newer Gauge Cluster in the '03 Ranger Dash.

Also, I still have the Speed-O only Cluster to think on !

Scrambler82 03-14-2019 10:03 PM

I have been scanning the Web without success.

From one Recycling Site, which claims to KNOW Ranger Gauge Cluster, staled there was no Speed-O Only Gauge Clusters for 01-03.

So it looks like..., since I can't find any info on an '03 XL Cluster without Tach, that I am up the creek without the Paddle.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Why don't you put in a 1998-2000 Ranger cluster, the ones that only have speedometer, no tach?

i.e. : https://www.ebay.ca/itm/1999-99-2000-00-Ford-Ranger-Instrument-Speedometer-Gauge-Cluster-178k-Miles/233157557006?epid=1011140577&hash=item364945fb0e:g :FH8AAOSw8NlcgCCu

You can used colored/dimmable LEDs to jazz it up a bit

Yes that is the info I was looking for... Interchangeability ! Thank you RonD.

Anything else I need to know.

p.s. I had this same cluster on my Watch List, but didn't know it it would work or not !

The '00 Speed-O Cluster, this is a Plug and Play setup ?

My problem is I don't know what fit what, and when... is you get my drift !

1995 to 2003 are same size, so are 1993/4 but have mechanical speedometers, so need a speedo cable and use different connectors

1995 to 2001 Explorers clusters are also the same as Rangers

In some years the wiring changed and you need to re-pin a few but not a big deal

These years all use 3 connectors, 16 pin, 12 pin and 10 pin

Thanks Ron, you always come though !

Is there a difference in the wiring between the 2000 Speed-O Only Cluster and the 2003 Tach Cluster... ?

Plug and Play would be good.

Do you happen to have a 2000 Ranger Schematic ?
