Dome Light Short?

Well...My dome light is ghey basically. I've had the same problem with it since I bought the truck. When I first bought it, there were no bulbs in the dome light, and I was kinda confused as to why..So I went up to my trusty AutoZone, and bought a pair of bulbs. Made sure my light was in the "off" position, and threw them bad boys in. Turns out, they lit up right away, even in the off position. So I went through, and tried every other setting, including the one where it only turns on when the door is open, and obviously "on", and come to find out..It stays lit up in every single setting. The only way to get it to turn off without taking the bulbs out is to slide the switch between 2 settings..In the "good spot" and it'll go off, and stay that way, but it's a PITA to get it to that spot. Anyone know how to fix this other than installing the Mustang dome light..?

wait.. hmm you might want to see what the wiring looks like back there if someone messed with it?

The "easy, quick" way to check, if you have remote keyless entry, is to shut the doors and lock the truck. If you push the "lock" button a second time and the horn honks twice, you've got a problem with the wiring to the door ajar switch or the switch itself. Otherwise, you'll probably need to break out the service manual and/or wiring diagrams for your truck and do some testing to determine the problem...

I had the exact same problem-no bulbs in there when I got truck, kept staying on after locking it. it's the switch that's on the door latch mechanism, I just took it apart and cleaned everything up and put it back in. I've had to do again a couple times, but it usually works for a few months after I clean it. I probably need a new latch/switch sometime.

Common problem with Rangers. The dome light switch is mounted on the door latch assembly in the doors. Spray the latch liberally with WD-40, and open/close the door a few times. This should free up the switch. Do this on both doors.
