so i realized i need to move the radiator, (the easiest place would probably be the bed) in order to take the body lift off because the shackles are in the way. i'll just can the AC system and use that spot to build a bracket for a hydraulic pump later on.

anyways, all i would need is
- some sort of bracket to hold the radiator, which i can make
- an electric fan or 2
- a new overflow tank
- and lots of hose?

am i missing something?

would this be feasible with the truck being a DD, and having a full bed still on it?

 

If you're asking if it would not run hot or anything, I don't imagine it would, I didn't relocate my radiator at all when I did my body lift, it's never run any hotter than it did before, it actually runs a little cooler.

I've seen it done before, as long as you don't have a problem with running that much hose and crap, I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work.

Just set it up the same way it was under the hood... just in the bed.

 

next q, where do you buy 20' of hose for coolant?
i need to search pirate, i know its there i'm just feelin lazy and hope someone here has a link handy.

idk if i'm gonna attempt to use the ranger one or get a nice fancy aftermarket one. time and $$ will dictate that one i suppose.

 

Napa here sells hoses for coolant and other such things.

 

that should be cool. i would definitely think you would need some electric fans to keep the truck cool at idle/slow speeds, but i really dont know.

I wouldnt do it. I would try to find some way to make it work. move your spring shackles! or better yet, do coils like i told you to begin with!

we discussed this on aim lol. I'll get a 77 HP axle, then send you the RA's to extend them and i'll get some coils.. but i want to build that axle, so its gonna be a while. i have leaves to bend and otherwise jack all sorts of up in the mean time


uhm, see here's my issue. i want a front bumper.. i NEED a front bumper, but first i want to take the body lift off so i don't have to remake the bumper. but before i take it off i need to move the radiator.

i could cut a hole in the hood and make brackets to lift it up, i've seen a rad sticking out the hood before

 

Just do a shackle reversal, and be done with it.

 

i have no way to do any of that, no tools, no lift yada yada. and there's no where in town i trust doing it. the shop that put my 9" in doesn't know it yet.. but their getting my truck back because the ****ing spring perches aren't the same angle.

i need close up pics of 2002fx4's rear mount. mine were gonna end up right ext to the collector and that would melt the **** outa the bushings.



i couldddd stretch the wheel base like another 2" and move everything up but thats gonna jack with all the steering crap. and who wants a wheel base that long?

 

priorities man.

bumpers can go last, find a stocker for cheap and put it back on.

when your engine blows because it over heated your gonna be even more screwed than you are now.

get a D44, switch the parts over, it does not have to be BEEF the first time under the truck.

 

i still have no welder.. i could do it w/o a lift but the welder is kinda important.

and i cant put stock bumper on there, we hacked the frame horns off and welded on a piece of 2x4

 

so then no bumper.

save up buy a welder
then buy a D44 or fix the one you have

you really only have 2 things to weld to the frame, buckets and the RA rear brackets, find someone that has one.

Whenever I have seen a bed mounted radiator, hose isn't used to bridge the large gap, instead they use tubing similar to an exhaust.

 

that is what i have seen as well.

 

Matt, i'd go to an aircooled vw site and research there. Some guys put a radiator up front and a watercooled engine in the rear. One of the issues with the tubing is allowing the system to "burp" cause of the long water tubes. If yuo have an air pocket you won;t get flow.

As far as a bed mounted radiator, it makes sense for what you are doing. The radiator is a weak link when off-roading.

 

i need to talk to him, i saw him driving the other day and a guy on another forum said he's seen the truck out there so i know he didn't move.

tmy bigger priority is getting my e-brake cable hooked up so wanna see how his is done. we've gotta be close to the same height in the back by now.


lemme get ahold of him. see what we can work out about welding some brackets on and the rest could be done in my driveway.. it'll be tricky but it could be done.

the last 2 buggies i saw had nice big hoses running back to the radiator

yea, there's the issue of the air, and, can the water pump push it that far.




i really do want coils though. shipping those RAs to zach is gonna be killer but it should be worth it. the best part is i just got a job, so now i can afford to move forward on the project, getting me one step closer to rompin' on it over some rocks

 

since its basically a closed loop system I wouldn't worry about the distance personally. There are electric in line pumps out there but they are $$.

you're welcome to use my shop if you need to weld,etc. I finally got my metal chop saw permanently mounted. I also have the metal cutting bandsaw. Air sanders, grinders, etc.
