Factory Foglight switch to run aftermarket lights?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I couldn't seem to find anything by searching.

I recently found a 4x4 Explorer radio bezel with the rear wiper, fog light & rear defrost switches.

Is it possible to utilize the rear defrost button (right above the fog light button) to turn on a relay for other lights, such as backup lights or aux. fog lights?

How about using the rear wiper button for something else?

Any ideas?

I'm sure something similar can be done using the rear wiper switch....but I prefer to retrofit it and make it like a stock ranger.....with the constant 12V cig lighter.

Thanks for the info...
Did you get your button indicator light to light up too?

I never did it. lol. But yes, if hooked up properly, it'll function just like the stock fog light switch does. The 3rd link is my local buddy Trevor who has his PIAA's hooked up to it.

Cool,
Hopefully I'll get around to doing this pretty soon.

I wonder if I could fill in the rear wiper switch with some JB Weld or epoxy & smooth it out to get rid of the switch.

I'm going to get Explorer seats & console, but I'm going to add several outlets to the console & I don't need another outlet on the bezel.

The factory foglamp switch is an on/off pushbutton but the rear defrost is a momentary on pushbutton. It would be possible to use the rear defrost switch with a bank of 4 relays to turn it into a on/off switch for aux lights.

An easier and cleaner solution is to simply use a second factory foglamp switch for the aux lights. After trimming a rib along the length the upper fog switch, it will slide right into the Explorer bezel in place of the rear defrost switch. That rib is a rejection key and has no purpose other than to prevent misassembly of the 2 switches at the factory.

...or you could do what I did back in the day. Get another foglight button, make it fit in the defrost button hole and go from there. I plan on doing this with my new truck.

Hi Bob!

Here is a 4x2 Ex bezel that has had the wiper switch position converted to a 12v power point:

Sounds like replacing the defrost switch with another fog switch may be the easier way to go about it.... just have to find someone with an extra fog switch they don't need.

Now that I think about it, I might keep the rear wiper **** in case I ever add an amp with a sub level control. I could replace the wiper **** & works with the sub level controls.

I like that.

This thread helped me to hook them to the foglight switch.
