Headlights stay on when vehicle is on.
 

Hello, thanks for helping! Just got this 08 ford ranger and the headlights stay on even with the light switch is in the off position. If I switch them on, they seems to get brighter. When the ignition is off they also go off. Somebody help me out here.

You probably have a DRL (driving light) module. It should be on the driver's side in the wheel well towards the front of the vehicle. Small square thing, looks like a relay.

hmm, I thought of that but wasn't aware they put the on rangers. I might have found it, just above the front of the wheel well, mounted directly in front of the battery... Can you tell if this is it?

If the headlights come on with the light switch off at reduced power, check and see if the tail lights are also on. If not, then more than likely you have DRL in your truck. Not sure if this works with Ford but, try engaging the parking brake, then starting the truck. If the headlights are now off, release the parking brake. If they come on, then you have DRL.

Good call on the parking brake tip, seems it's equipped with DRL. No lights on when the parking brake is applied. Thanks, now that's a good day when you come on a forum thinking you have a problem and find out your new truck had an added feature.

DRL often run at lower lighting level than with head light switch on

No US states require it, as far as I know.

But you can get a ticket in some states for not having head lights on in bad weather during the day time.

22 states require motorcycles to have head light on when on the road, day or night

DRL doesn't shorten bulb life significantly, Canada has the long term numbers for it.

$15 a year if you have a shop change them

No DRL is about 10% less, so you save 30 cents a year, or a buck and a half

In the pic you posted, no that's not the DRL module (I'm fairly certain) but that's neither here nor there at this point. End result is the same. And, in all honesty, I couldn't tell you what it looks like on a 2008 for 100%, no doubt in my answer.

in fuse box there is a fuse for DRL (day time running lights) if you don't want them pull the fuse

I have 2010 Ranger 4.0 I don't see a fuse for it. anyone know which exact fuse?

Fuses and relays are listed in the owner's manual.
