From another thread I have found that the Heater, A/C Blower Motor Resister Pack is located in the engine compartment near the blower motor, is this true for all Rangers (2003) ?

Is there anything that can be done about the resistors burning out.

When I purchased my truck the original pack was bad, got it replaced as part of the warranty, now in one year it is gone again or at least I think it is.

I do not hear any difference in the fan noise when going from position 1 to 2, when I hit position 3 the motor noise increases a lot and 4 does too; I assume from this that the resistor pack is bad again ?

Thanks for any help on repairing the existing pack and/or replacing it and/or upgrading it to something more robust in design.

Remove the blower motor and check for anything that may restrict its movement.
I once found a bunch of fishing line wrapped around the shaft.??
Also , on the resistor pack is a thermal fuse .
But most of the time the spade connectors that the plug connects to rot off .

 

As you can see, the Blower Thermasistor (thermal resistor) is located on the bottom right side of the Blower motor, visible in the bottom right corner of this picture:



There is no reason for it to go out repeatedly, unless there is some sort of additional strain on this circuit, maybe a ground fault, or a shorted connector like mentioned above.

 

I would check the wires behind the HVAC to make sure all the wire are in the plug.

I thought my resistor was going bad too put a new one in and it was still not working right. Looked behind the HVAC and sure enough their was a wire out of the connector.
