Heavy Duty alternator.... any clearance issues?

Well... it looks like my alternator is on the way out (red battery light came on, battery tested fine, everything else looks OK...). I figure I should go ahead and step up to a heavy duty alt, but before I do I just want to make sure that I'm not going to run into any clearance issues. I know that they are physically bigger...

So... HD alternator guys, what do you have and did you have to do anything special to get it to fit?

Thanks in advance,
Mike :)

PS. If it matters, I have an '04 FX4 automatic

I would also like to know.If the 130 amp would fit on my 2005 xlt 4.0

Well I put a 130 amp alternator from an Explorer on my 3.0 with absolutely no problem. The case is bigger but the mounts are the same and there is plenty of underhood clearance.

I'm runnin a 200 amp on my 302 and I had to grind out parts of the casting to get the alternator to fit. Since your in the same town your welcome to come measure mine for clearance on yours.

I put a 200 amp alt on my 2002, 2WD 3.0 with no probs at all. Used a new stock belt just to be sure.

Did you run larger wiring?
