How much $$$ for PATS programming?

Since I'm getting into the final stages of the project, I'm trying to plan in advance for each thing leading up to turning the key.

I ordered my 2 PATS keys from an Ebay vendor for under $15 shipped.

How much will it cost to have a locksmith come out, cut a pair of keys, and program the PATS system?

I only have one PATS key for my truck and the dealer wanted $130 to cut and program two new keys.

Don't know what you paid for keys via Ebay..........but keys for your 2000 Ranger are $20 each and if you already have 2 keys, you can program it! ............if you only have 1 key, the anti-theft system requires 2 keys to be reprogrammed, and the programmin is an additional $32.50 + the key + tax at our store. Most locksmiths don't have the equipment to program keys.

He needs to reflash the pats system to link it to the explorer v8 comp. So its a little more that what a locksmith can do i think. i still gota do mine too. i have to get some keys still. so i think i might do that via ebay too. which keys did you get? for explorer or ranger?

Andy if you have a ranger ignition get ranger keys. But I have a feeling they'd be the exact same thing.

well i read somwhere that you should get the year explorer keys for yer swap motor/comp. Also there are 2 types of PATS E and B.. and they require different keys. explorer has type B, so Ranger type E keys wont work for the swap

Here are mine, with a money back guarantee if they don't work.

Actually keys for my 2000 Ranger are about $2.00 each, since I didn't have PATS before the swap.

Now that the PCM, PATS system, motor and transmission are ALL from the SAME EXPLORER, I simply need someone to program my keys and possibly flash the system to get it to work.

I just paid $101 for the Ford dealer to cut and program 2 PATS keys. I bought the keys off eBay. They charged me 3 bucks each to cut them and the rest was labor/shop supplies. I thought it was a rip-off, but there's not much you can do when you only have one key!

ok if its the same pats, same pcm, and same ignition (in the column) from the explorer which it should be because you did not have pats before. then only place to go is the dealer. might have to tow it there, have them redo the pats and add 2 keys, prolly going to be 150 be my bet.

Yes, the Ex keys work fine in my Ranger's ignition switch. The dealer can cut your keys by looking up the key code associated with your VIN - I did it that way because it's a little more accurate than a key copier .... and the friendly Ford parts guy did mine for free.

hmm i'm thinking it'd be smart for me to program an extra key or two and store them in my apartment.
