04 alarm install question.

I've installed a viper alarm on my 04 ranger. I have all the wires hooked up besides the light flash output wire. Can anyone tell me what wire to look for. It is a pain trying to find out what wires are what in those big plug things by the fuse box.

It also says to not connect the light flash output wire without a relay if it will draw more than 10 amps. Is a relay gonna be required? Or is it basically already like a relay?

Thanks for any help.

i did not use a relay when i hooked up mine. let me look for the wiring diagram i had for my truck.

ok, the parking light wire is the brown wire at the headlight switch, it is a positive wire. what alarm do you have? my viper 5002 had a fuse on the alarm control box that if inserted one way was for positive wire, if inserted the other it was for negative.

do you have the dome light hooked up? one problem i have is that when i unlock with the alarm fob, the lights do not stay on for very long. i have to go out and fix it, but i just dont have time.

hope this helps

Dan

ps,

i still have the wiring diagram for my truck obviously if you want it let me know.

viper 560xv. So tap into it at the headlight **** to the left of the steering wheel? I know my fog lights flash when I hit the factory lock and unlock. The fog lights should be connected to its own power source right. Shouldnt draw more on the alarm right?

Thanks for the quick answer.

yea, that is the head light switch, but make sure to test with a dmm, i dont know if the fogs flashed when i hit the factory lock button. but if you only tap the brown wire. i dont know what the wire is for the fogs, but that would be over near the switch for the fogs, near the radio.

black white at the switch it is a negative trigger so make sure you move the parking light jumper on the alarm brain to negative. if you dont you can damage the vehicle. use as many negative triggers as you can. limits the draw of the alarm that way you can tie into any 10amp circuit and not have to go to a higher current wire

Great. Thanks for all the info. I will be using it all to complete the install. I only hooked up the basics. I hooked up all the ignition kill wires, wired into the domelight instead of the door trigger wires. Figured it was basically the same workings. I havent bothered with any of the remote start stuff. Dont I need to get the bypass module to make that work? Just wanted basic security to protect my stereo equipment.

yes, you need a bypass, and iirc a key programed to the same as your truck, but it can be blank uncut key. i have a manual tranny so i didnt want to bother with a remote start. i know it can be done, and even done safely. but i didnt need it. as far as to the dome light, that is what i did as well. only problem i have is the dome light issue i stated before, just havent gotten around to getting in to where the brain is hidden and sort it all out.

well the dome light is fine as long as it is set to come on when the door is opened. if not then the alarm will not trigger. you will need an xko4,556sw or a 556u. i like U's but they are tricky sometimes
