help with anti-theft code 15

1 Attachment(s)
Hey Everyone! I'm new to this forum, joined up as I bought a Ranger and its obvious I'm gonna be needing some help from time to time LOL. My truck is a 2010 4.0 2WD sport model.

Heres the issue I need help with: my truck's anti-theft light is intermittently becoming activated and producing a no start, no crank condition. The previous owner recently had new keys programmed by a local guy (not the dealership). I've uploaded a video of the code that it gives me after the light flashes for around 60 seconds. I believe the code is 15. I have 2 keys but it doesn't appear to matter which key I use, the issue is intermittent. When it happened today (when the attached video was taken), I took out the key and put it back in and the key was recognized and the truck started.

Can anybody help me troubleshoot this issue? I have indeed been searching online but haven't really found anyone that having an intermittent issue with this code. What I'm concerned about is that the issue will become more frequent and less intermittent and I definitely don't want that, so I'm trying to be proactive.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum

15 Invalid key code received.

This could be from low battery voltage, colder it gets the lower the voltage
Test battery in the morning after it has sat for at least 4 hours
12.4v to 12.8volt is OK
Under 12.3v could cause that code

Speculation fix would be to replace transceiver, its the antenna around the key slot, no reprogramming is required just a 4 wire powered antenna that passes on the key's number to PATS module in the instrument cluster

After that you may need to take it to Ford for reprogramming

Hey RonD, Thanks for the reply! Battery voltage appeared to be OK so I went ahead and ordered a transceiver.. I think you're probably right, it definitely seems like a failing transceiver would intermittently fail to recognize the key. Hope so! I'll bump this back up with an update for anyone who has this problem going forward.
