Help ASAP Fuel Neck
 

Hey all! I recently posted that I replaced my fuel filler neck with one off of ebay. It all went fine but the neck was situated wrong and i had to turn the inside for it to work. That's what you get for $100.
Well I went to fill the tank up today and the pump kept on clicking off. It took me 5 minutes to pump $5 worth of fuel. What can cause this? Is it the neck, tank or something else? i really need some help this problem is driving me crazy. I still have codes 443 and 1445 but I doubt they have anything to do with this problem.

Yeah, if that was kinked it would cause this correct?

That's right. if it's kinked or blocked it will definitely do that. you may have to pull it back off and check for blockage. it may have kinked something internally when you turned it too. I had the same issue with my wife's F-150 after the truck was repaired from a wreck on the bedside.

A little tidbit most don't know.
The next time you fuel up , take a look at the underside of the fuel nozzle.You will see a small ~1/16 inch hole.On some vehicles when the nozzle is placed all the way into the tank , the bottom of the nozzle contacts the filler tube.
If air cannot freely enter this hole , it will shut off the pump handle.
In the winter time I try to avoid gas pumps on the windward side of stations as I've found the snow can blow up around the handles and ice will form covering that tiny hole making that pump about useless.

Thanks for all the info. I was wondering where the vent hose is but i guess it's in the neck itself. I guess I'm taking down the tank again. AT least the tank isn't full like last time, I'm only on a 1/4 tank. I've had codes 443 and 1445 for awhile now so I can rule them out as the culprit. There just for the purge flow sensor and they would have nothing to do with this problem.

Those codes very well can have something to do with your problem. There are many computer controlled valves in your evap system. If these malfunction things like you are experiencing can happen. Now if you didn't have this problem before you replaced the tube they might not be the problem but, there still is the possibility.

I had these codes for months and the reason I changed the neck was because fuel was leaking out and the last time I went to fill the tank I couldn't due to the pump shutting off all the time. So I changed the neck and the first time I go to put fuel in it the pump keeps shutting down again.

Those codes are just the purge flow sensor malfunction, these should have nothing to do with filling up the fuel tank. I would hope.

The purge and vent valves control the vapors in the fuel tank and sense how full the tank is. That is of liquid fuel and fuel vapors. If one malfunctions you may not be able to fill the tank like described. This can be because the sensor thinks the tank is already full when it is not.

I've had these codes for months and I was always able to fill the tank. But it's worth a shot.

I checked and my vent hose is fine, nothing is kinked. I'm at a loss besides for the codes.

If you have had those codes before this problem I don't know what to tell you. I would just double check everything.

this happens to me too, just pulling the pump toward to top of the the neck instead of dropping it all the way in seems to work for me.

Tried that, still does it.

Well the neck is a tube inside a tube so I cut the inside tube down a little and it helped but it still clicks off. It just waits a little longer now. I may remove the whole inside tube and see what happens.

I guess that's why they're only $70 on e-bay.

I removed the whole inner tube and it is still doing this. It fills for a second or 2 then it overflows. Seems like something at the tank is blocking it. What else can it be since I know have just a long filler neck with no obstructions straight to the tank? I may have to break down and buy the $400 neck since there is nothing else that I can see that is wrong with it. Great time for this, with x-mas coming up.
