Those rings should come out...how else can you get the wheel studs in/out??

If those rings aren't in there perfectly (they 'whobble' when you spin the rotor, will it throw the abs error?).

I bet my ABS rings got screwed up when I had them turned. Only explanation for me because the system worked perfectly before that.

My tone rings are pressed in. When I got the rotors, they weren't in far enough (would rub my abs sensor), had to take a hammer and punch and push them in further. Both came like that.

^^Gonna have to check that out. He's off to college now since spring break is over. He left his truck here for me to fix the brakes and replace that leaky rack that's been leaking for a good 30k. lol.

He said when he and a friend of mine pressed in longer wheel studs, the removal of the tone ring was easy...it just popped right out. This was on the factory rotors. I hope the same will happen when I go back in there.

I'm not sure if this helps but it was getting baaaad on my truck. So I pulled fuse 14 (abs) and hasn't done it since. I just replaced mt rotors and that's when it got unbearable.

I guess if changing the rings doesn't do fix it, we'll remove the ABS fuse. Who needs ABS anyways (i've never used it...i'm a safe driver )

I like the sound of this. I have to install:
Edge Hood
Edge bumper/valance
Fogs lights
HID Fogs (soon to buy)
Mazda orange gauge needles
Edge rear bumper (that one in the shop temps me everytime...)
Finish wiring OHC
Install and wire Expo Auto-Dim mirror
Replace fuel filter (???i'm at almost 50k on it)
Wash it
I'm sure there is more. Shane, you've got your work cut out mang...

before we do anything about your ABS issue, you need to drive it with some different tires on it. my truck used to act up with the BL and stock tires. the truck sits higher so the lateral accelerometer (g-switch) will spaz out when you are stopping, and that narrow of a tire loses its friction with he road causing the abs to activate.

as for grants truck, check the air gap between the sensor and the tone ring

Alright guys, my truck is fixed!!!

Shane noticed that the ring and/or sensor would hit my dust shield sometimes so he took that off. While the rotors were off, he swapped my old abs tone rings onto the new rotor. Problem fixed! verry niice! Thanks brotha for the work!

is it possible that the replacement rotors didnt have the exciter ring on them at all, ive run into this problem on other vehicles that i bought cheapo rotors for and they were missing the rings. just a thought

The new stoptech rotors had the tone ring in them....painted silver. Stockers are black. And I believe that the new rotor's tone ring gap vs stock rotor tone ring gap between it and the sensor were different. I think.

What it was was something I dont even know what the issue was. I swapped the tone ring from the stock rotors to the new rotors, cleaned the snot out of the old tone rings, then bolted everything back up, and test drove it for a good 30mins to try and coax it to do it again....didn't happen.

Grant...thanks for bumping it. I completely forgot. lol....i got pics i'll post here in a few mins. maybe. lol.

Dude, please don't infer that i bought cheapo rotors lol. they weren't 'cheapo' and we fixed the problem already.

I don't think the color had to do with any of it. The tone rings 'cut' the magnetic field produced by the ABS sensor, so color should matter. I think it was a problem of the size of the holes (they had a lot of zinc plating on them), and possible the gap (how far away the holes of the ring were to the ABS sensor). Either way, problem fixed. Now to move in on my rears.....

Shane, i noticed my rear tires are missing A LOT of tread....what did you do on those ~100miles you put on her??
And yes, post many pics. we all like pics!

Sounds good. Glad you took my advice and fixed it correctly the first time without messing with other things that were not the problem!
