What have you all used from Harbor Freight as far as power tools are concerned? Stuff is super cheap that it is tempting.

Many of them have only about 3 out of 5 stars or very few reviews.

Sure, it has bad reviews but its $10. That said, I always find myself buying something (Subs, radio, xbox, electronics) and then shortly after buying its better counterpart.

When Josh helped me get my front hitch in, we used a chicago electric cutoff wheel to cut up the hitch off a super duty and it did great. don't recall if the grinder we used was chicago electric or not but it worked fine too.

I'm also interested in hearing about cordless or electric drills, circular saws, any power tools that you all have purchased, good or bad.

 

It's kinda luck-of -the-draw.
Most will last quite a while if you don't push them too hard.
But there is always that one tool in 50 that is crap right out of the box.
The funny thing is they are made on the same production lines as the higher priced ,name brand tools.
Think of them as "factory seconds" with different colored cases.

 

I too have seen that dremel tool but it is very small and cheap looking. The power tools are good as well as some of the air tools. I got their cheap air cut-off wheel and should have gotten the electric one as I had alot of cuts to make to get my Honda buckets in. I also got their 21 gal air compressor and it works great for me and plan to get an impact wrench which is good as my neighbor has one. Once you see their dremel tool, you will know what I mean.

 

They are all pretty cheap you can buy 2-3 and use it longer than other brands for cheaper.

but don't buy one expecting it to last forever.

I have the dremel tool. It's been through hell and back. I also have their 3/8" and 1/2" drive composite (plastic) ratchet been using it for 2 years never an issue besides handle flex on tight items. I even broke the 1/2" ratchet head right off of their 1/2" drive ratchet (had a pipe on it). A guy at work has tons of their specialty tools like ball joint press, compression tester, pickle forks. He even has there roll cart box. I have a few things but mostly craftsman, Mac and snapoff

 

I use their stuff alot. Only time I end up breaking it is when I am misusing the tool to begin with. If you reef on any tool its going to give. But light duty their stuff holds up alright and for the price cant be beat

 

I think with harbor freight your get more then you pay for. There tools are cheap and well worth it in my opinion. I buy a lot of tools from there and have never had any major problems. I get more then my moneys worth from there tools. I would say go for it. The accessories are worth $10 alone.

 

The dremel is cheap I bought it when it was on sale for $7 but its crap as soon as you touch whatever your using it on it boggs down so slow it doesnt do anything. things like their screw drivers and pliers are okay for the house just tinkering around. but for quality stuff i suggest matco or snap on all my good tools are matco. I did buy a dremel a couple yrs ago and it rocks it has a seperate motor that hangs from a hook and a pencil style dremel and a foot pedal i think i paid 20 or so for it but it is bad *** ill try and take a pic of it

Yea I saw that when i tried to find it on the website but well worth the money, it doesnt bogg down or anything like that i have had it for a few yrs and its still strong as ever

 

We got a air impact I believe that came from there. It was the highest rated we could find. Had it for atleast 4 years and still doing great. Some stuff is decent and some is junk. We bought a roll around floor jock from there that has been used maybe 40 times and it spews oil everywhere now.

 

i have there 3 inch cut off wheel, 1/2 impact n the 3/8 impact n they all work great had them 4 a few years and im 23 so u know im not easy on them

 

Luck of the Draw is a good way to describe HF tools. I've got a few of them, but its things i don't use a lot.

 

I forgot about a saw-zaw we bought. We needed one because we were cutting a 16 foot boat because we wanted the trailer. The first one the case completely broke into pieces. Replaced it with the same one and no problems.

 

Well how's the return/warranty process? I've got a store local, can I buy online and trade it n there if there is an issue?

 

If they say it has the warranty on it then yeah. I just took an impact back I had for a few years and they swapped it right over no questions asked

 

Like sears basically. i brought a ratchet back to 2 pieces and grabbed a new one off the shelf then i was back a month later, and did the same thing

I'll add to my statement earlier.
hits: Aluminum 1-ton jack, Metal shears, truck set of pliers.
misses: anything you have to plug in. casters, pneumatic wheels.
just in my experience.

 

I definitely am wary of things with too many moviing parts. I would like some ok tools to keep in the truck though.

 

Thats what mine are, got a set of pliers and screwdrivers. works out pretty well.

 

it doesn't work that way at harbor freight for POWER TOOLS which is what this thread is about.

Its hit or miss as everyone says. My grinder caught on fire when I started making a half door lol
