Help no start
Good evening fellas,
My 4.0 ranger won't start. Had the same problem two days ago and while they were fooling with it it started. Now it won't start. I turn the key and nothing. No cranking, no nothing. The shop switched out the starter relay and they weren't even sure if that was it. Any help or guesses would be helpful. THanks again. |
the two problems i once had were...
1: Mouse chewed through a wire going to starter solenoid...wire was shorting out changed solenoid and wire...worked fine 2:ground wire going to starter....bolt fell out and wire became disconnected. so i'd say, check the solenoid and then check all the connections |
I figured it could be a connection problem but as I searched through other forums, a lot of threads with similar issues were saying that it was the starter.

Push the shifter up into park more or try neutral.

at least the one near me does.... unless your starter is a PIA to get out..... mine only has 3 bolts |
Tried jiggling and such but think I have it narrowed down to the connection that goes from the battery to the starter relay. Terminal #30 on the relay (according to the schematic that we got from Autozone) is supposed to have 12 volts all the time but its got nothing. Am I missing something. If it isn't this, then it has to be the starter. But hey, its 16 F outside and 2100 hrs and I'm outside with a flashlight. Not cool. Im done for tonight Keep it comin.

Checked the starter and it and the solenoid are good to go. We have it narrowed down to a ground issue between the relay and the junction box. I've been on autozone.com going through the schematics but no such luck. They are not completely accurate. If anyone has done this before, please pipe in.
Oh and by the way, the starter is a PIA to get out of an 01. |
try cleaning your battery cables and terminals? check all grounds, look for broken/ chewed up wires.
