So I have an 89 Ranger 2.3 L. It will turn but won't fire and start. Every indication it's a fuel problem. Took VAC off and sprayed in there and it starts but then dies. So it has spark. Gotta be problem in Fuel Line, right? Well my Fuel Pump is working, I can hear it. I changed my Fuel Filter because why not. Its on right and I can feel vibration when car has power, so it seems like the Fuel Pump is working and sending fuel to and through the filter. What could be causing the fuel not to get from the Fuel Filter to the Throttle Body?

I had the same problem. Have you checked the connector that goes from the vehicle to the fuel pump?

 

I checked the connections before the fuel filter, after the filter and, even disconnected the braided line to the regulator on the rail. Every time I cycled the pump it shot fuel out. I even jiggled the electrical connections on the pump itself while running and nothing happened. I’m just at a loss.

 

Unplug the TPS(throttler position sensor) 3 wire connector and see if it starts
If TPS is shorted it tells the computer to shut off fuel injectors

And try this to see if fuel is getting into the cylinders
Cycle key on and off 3 times
Crank engine over 3 times for 5 seconds or so each time
Pull out 1 spark plug and have a look at its tip, it should be WET with fuel IF...........fuel injectors are working, I am betting it will be DRY

Not sure if 1989 will have a CEL(Check engine light), if it does it should come on with key on, this means computer is powering up
Spark on the 1989 2.3l is self contained, not related to computer, computer only runs the fuel injectors, so it needs to power up
If you have a CEL and it comes on, then watch it when cranking over engine, it should go OFF when cranking, that means computer is "seeing"/getting a timing pulse from spark system(ICM)
If CEL stays on then computer won't open injectors because it has no timing pulse

 

I can try that but mine is a 93 4.0. I know I have fuel. I checked the plugs already.

 

So the spark plugs are WET after cranking?
