help please

Truck wont start. Put the key in all is fine turn the key and the dash lights go out and i hear a "click/clunk." Un did the terminals, cleaned them, put them back on, put key in and the same thing happens. Put the battery charger on it checked the battery voltage, 12.5. Then i pressed alt. check on the charger and it came up with "FAULT." I'm thinking my Alt. is fried but it sounds like the noise is coming from down low like a starter issue.. I was soposed to take it first thing in the AM to get an alignment... Guess not. What do you guys think the problem is, Fried Altenator or another issue?

Thanks for your reply, If i leave the key out, door shut for a few and then put the key back in without disconnecting the battery, the same thing happens. The fluke meter confirmed the battery has 12.4 volts so the battery has juice. The terminals are free of corrosion all connections are good. Alt for sure dead?

True True. The battery tester couldn't even get a read on it. Where is the starter relay located?

should be on the driver side fender

Solved my problem.. I hope. I disconnected the battery, let it sit for 5 mins, hooked it back up, put the key in and turned the accesories on. Did some Google research and I read that your blower motor puts a big strain on the battery. Turned it on and and watched the battery voltage drop from 12.5 to 11.6 then climb back up again. That's tellin' me the Alt. is fine and the starter relay is shot.
