HID help

I have a set of HIDs ive had in my 03 ranger for a while now and all of the sudden they both stopped working. High and low beams. When i switch back to stock bulbs the stockers work fine. I checked grounds and fuses i even tried swapping another HID bulb in and nothing worked. I moved the ground directly to the negative on m battery so i assume that would be a fine spot for it. Theres one 30a fuse that is in the kit and it doesnt look blown but i dont have a spare to check it with. What are the chances both ballasts fried i wonder?

havn't heard of both ballasts taking a dump at the same time. Check that harness and all connections....but.....isthere a relay in the harness? the one that came with the hid's? If so, I suspect the relay is bad.

x2 if it has a relay. for some reason, relays always sh!t out on me lol

and yeah, wouldnt make sense for both ballasts to go at the same time..

Thats the relay, you can get one at any auto parts store.

one that will plug into the harness? or is it a special one

FireRanger 07-19-2009 09:41 AM

That doesn't look like a normal bosch pattern relay. That's a custom part for the system you have that is handling the sensing and switching. If it is crapped out, you will probably need to build a customized version for yourself.

I don't know if that harness has a relay socket or not, take off the heatshrink on the bottom of the black box and see if there is something the relay just plugs into or if each wire is connected to each pin on the relay seperatly.

ahh super since i have no idea how to go about doing that i'm screwed. unless i can get one from ddm where i bought the hids

andmorse 07-19-2009 09:52 AM

as you can see each wire is on a seperate pin on the relay.

04blackedge 07-19-2009 09:56 AM

Oh wow that is not what I thought it was, that isn't a normal relay. That looks like some sort of control box, you'll have to contact the company for help.
