depending on what model ur current altenator is any exploder from 1998+ will work. im pretty sure ur ranger runs a small case 3G and those exploders (1998-2002/3) use a large case.

well maybe that information above is false info.

autozone lists the same alternator for the explorer and the ranger. 130amp, so i must have a 130 now.

ok sweet

thanks. does it just say on the side? the rating? (edit: somehow you knew i was gonna ask.)

i think mine is going bad. it just doesnt keep the volt guage up, and my heater fan changes rpm from idle and crusing speeds. this has been going on for a while now.

i imagine getting water and snow packed around the alternator doesnt help this.

u say urs is going bad, how long has this been going on? since u installed the e-fans? because they draw quite a bit of juice, especially on start up.

Recently installed a brand new large case 3G 160A alternator with HD voltage regulator and rectifier.... The difference between the small case and the large case is more heat removal and larger windings....
The large case 3G is a plug and play direct swap out for the small case alternator.....
You can check this website to answer your questions.
