Clutch Pedal Position Switch

Clutch Pedal Position Switch
I know the clutch position switch is essentially 3 switches in one. Three circuits are being controlled: starter relay, speed control, and as a "sensor" to the PCM.
So what does the PCM circuit do? How does the PCM use this information?

My truck is automatic, but my friends 2003's cruise wasn't working. So I did the diagnostic mode and it flashed twice. He said he could start his vehicle without pushing in the clutch. I checked the clutch switch and it was loose on the rod. No springy resistance. So I took the jumper out of mine and the cruise worked. But I noticed the jumper only had 4 pins and only jumped the starter and speed control circuits. So this got me curious about the PCM circuit.

I did some more reading and I think I saw someone say that it was for shifting to 4wd low (safety) which kinda makes since, but I've seen the extra wires wired up on 2wd. I guess yours answer works better because it makes since why its on a 2wd model.
Anyway, do you see any problems just taking a jumper plug and ignoring the bad switch? (Besides the hole starting in gear thing)
