How to bypass/delete these things on the airbox?

93 ranger 3.0 5 speed. 2wd
Theres a vacuum hose running from the air box to a circular valve of some sort that has a metal pipe coming off the exhaust manifold and running to it on the intake. Assuming its some sort of system that heats up the intake air.

Theres also some wire plug on there that i dont know what it is. Im doing a cone air filter conversion and want to delete these things. I removed the vacuum hose and the wire and no check engine light came on and no funny idle. Any ideas how i can delete these safely without setting off the CEL?

Like you're putting the correct cold air intake for your truck, or just slapping a filter on your factory pipe? Actual kit should come with provisions for all vacuum lines. Worst case, just use some vacuum caps and if a cel comes on, the. Just rehook it up to your pipe

You can remove the vacuum lines if you want, one comes from the engine, and you must cap that connection so you don't have a vacuum leak
The other vacuum line runs down to the pre-heater vent valve you can just remove that one, valve will stay closed so you don't need to remove it

You can remove the pre-heater duct between valve and exhaust manifold air chamber(thin steel plates around exhaust manifold)

And you can remove the air chamber as well it can rattle if its starting to rust out and is broken away from it bolts

Yes, this was an emissions thing and also helped engines to heat up faster, faster heater warm up and faster "no choke" needed, because engine was sucking it pre-heated air from around the exhaust manifold for about 4-5 minutes after Cold Start, then it switched over to the cold air intake full time

Thanks guys. Today I gutted out all the OEM intake from the MAF onward. Definitely cleans up that corner of the bay quite a bit. I got a cone filter I'm going to put on the MAF, just trying to give it a little extra intake noise and throttle response.

I plan on doing the same thing with this kit so the whole factory air box and hoses can be removed and it won't cause a CEL? And running funny?
