Brake light and rear antilock lights

my brake light and rear antilock lights came on and stayed on today. They go off right after you turn the car on, but drive alittle, not even touch the brakes and the lights will come on, so im thinking it just a short, but i dont know. Is the brake light a warning light for anything other than the parking brake being on?? The fluid level is fine, with no signs of leaks.

After disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it, i started the truck and the lights didnt stay one, i drove around for a bit and then when i was about ready to park the car, i was sitting for about 2 minutes and the stupid lights cam back on. i checked the fuid level and there was no change at all. So i put on the ebrake and desided to call it quites for the night and, when i put on the ebrake the brake light got brighter, should it have?? or is that a symptom of the problem??

what year is your truck? Sometimes moisture/mud/gunk gets in that big black connector under the drivers seat and causes all sorts of wierd things to happen, like the random dummy lights and such

Or your brake switch is failing. The one that connets to the pedal. check it out. And yes the sensor for the fluid could be going bad. Especially if the system hasnt been flushed.

actually i think your rigth about the switch, i noticed when i pressed real hard on the pedal at the end of its possible movement range, i felt a samll pop and blam, the light came on, i turned the car off and restarted it and the same, so im gonna check it more in depth tommarrow. What is the harm in letting the switch go?? will the brake lights just stop working?? it is a stick so there isnt any transmission requirments for the brake pedal.
